Tim Lavoie, the brains behind Elder Cactus, shared his journey from stand-up comedy to creating comics. “I used to do stand-up, but now in Montana, there isn’t much chance to tell jokes,” Lavoie told. “So, making comics for 9 months has been a fun way to keep writing jokes.”
Admitting his less-than-stellar drawing skills, Tim said, “I’m not the best artist, so I wanted something effective without taking up too much time.”
When it comes to creating jokes, Tim aims for diversity. “I try to cover as many topics as possible,” he shared. “I want to show writers I can handle any jokes they need, so they’ll hire me. To get ideas, I daydream a lot.”

Tim finds joy in the creative process, saying, “It’s fun to start with a weird idea, and a few hours later, it’s done and somewhat close to what I imagined.”
