Before becoming a comic artist, Alex worked various jobs, including at a supermarket, gardening, and call center. We asked if his previous jobs influenced his art. He responded, “Absolutely. Working these jobs had a massive influence on me. I stopped making art at 12 until I was about 22. During that break, I felt unfocused and directionless. The frustration from mundane jobs like working at a supermarket fueled my rediscovery of drawing. The boredom and lack of direction helped me gain momentum. I also felt I wasn’t good at those jobs, but with art, I knew there was some talent deep down.”

We were curious if Alex had a favorite comic he created. He shared, “Yes. My favorites are the ones that come to me quickly and effortlessly. For example, two comics I made for the Adult Swim website were created under pressure, but the ideas came to me within five minutes. Often, I struggle with ideas for days, so when an idea clicks quickly, those become my favorites.”

Dealing with criticism is part of any artist’s journey. Alex explained his approach to handling negative feedback. “It’s a learning process. I’m pretty introverted, and handing over my work for validation used to fill me with dread. The internet and social media have made it easier to share my work without feeling paranoid about someone’s reaction. Negative comments can still sting, but I try to focus on the positive ones and see constructive feedback in a good light.”
