The story of the “Idiot of the East” began recently. Originally planning to complete his engineering studies, Jauneil’s life took an unexpected turn with the pandemic. As his college classes were canceled, he found himself with ample free time. Equipped with a drawing tablet, Jauneil created drawings, shared them online, gained appreciation, and thus began his journey as a webcomic artist. In a twist of fate, we indirectly thank the pandemic for introducing us to Jauneil’s comic creations.

The intriguing choice of the name “Idiot of the East” caught our attention. Jauneil shared that in choosing a name, he aimed to neutralize potential insults by incorporating “idiot” into it, disarming critics. The “east” component reflects his Filipino origins. “In the end, I thought it was also catchy, so I stuck with it,” the artist added.
