Blanche, “For me, after visual arts studies at college, came to the University of Québec in Outaouais then a bachelor’s degree in comic arts. I graduated in 2018-it took me some time before illustrating short comic strips-bonus! Besides this, I am a tattoo apprentice in Montréal.”

Consistency, according to Blanche, is the most challenging aspect of making. She does not yet live off of her comics, but she still keeps posting and growing her community. “I have other projects and a job, so making comics takes time and becomes overwhelming. I don’t, however, burn myself out. Many online creators can fall into that trap of overworking themselves and I’m trying not to.”

Blanche takes inspiration from various sources, such as her personal life, random ideas, and even “silly” thoughts. Sometimes she finds the most unlikely humorous twist to work in a story or a short story with a funny twist, and other times her working lines are completely relatable, then surprisingly abrupt. If inspiration doesn’t come easily, she often uses online tools to generate random words and see if one of them sparks an idea. “Because of this, my comics are either relatable or completely random,” she says. “Motivation is different from having ideas. I’m not always motivated to draw, but I don’t let that stop me. To succeed, you need discipline, not just motivation. If I had stopped every time I wasn’t motivated, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

Blanche is working on an exciting project, Poe, a silent comic soon to be available on her website. “It’s a silent, short story,” she explains. “The great thing about silent comics is that everyone can read them—there’s no language barrier!”
