Do you like playing games? If you don’t, Mindy Kilgore’s comics are also worth checking out. Mindy has based her funny comics on her own life experiences. Whether you’re a gamer, a pet owner, or just someone who likes a good laugh, you should find something to your liking in her work presented in a funny, caricature-style format.
We convinced Mindy to tell us about the inspiration behind her comic series. She tells us, “I’ve been making comics since I was about 5 years old. I have always found graphic narrative storytelling really interesting, and comics were just kind of an accessible way for me to express myself. I’ve been doing it throughout my life.”
Mind focuses a lot on themes she relates to people. She says,

“Many of the recurring themes in my comics revolve around gaming and the universal experiences people have while playing video games.”
About her characters, Mindy said: “The main character in most of my comics is a caricature of myself, though I try not to make that the focus. Many of the other characters are inspired by gaming NPCs (non-playable characters).”

We also sought to know about her creative process. Mindy described how her comics come to life: “All of my comics start with quick thumbnail sketches on paper. I usually map out the layout and character poses within a few minutes. Then I do the linework and coloring digitally using Procreate on my iPad Pro.”

Lastly, we were curious about who inspires her. Mindy told us:
“Other comic artists inspire me a lot. I grew up with Jhonen Vasquez, and at present, my inspirations are Adam Ellis, Sarah Anderson, Last Place Comics, and Litterbox Comics.”
