We all have our very own problems, anxieties, and frustrations in today’s world. But the knowledge that we are not alone makes a difference. The good works of Sashotso Art reach its audience in the form of comics by Sasha Tsoy. They share personal, humorous, and sometimes vulnerable glimpses into some of life’s everyday moments. Tsoy documents really funny, annoying, and relatable situations. From the hardships of being a woman to the quirks of relationships and real-life challenges, readers find enough relevance in each piece.
With 57.8k Instagram followers, the work of Tsoy attracted both positive and negative feedback. “On my page, most responses are positive, but when my comics reach other parts of the internet, I sometimes receive hateful comments. It’s hard to manage, and I’m working on not letting negative feedback affect me as much.”

Almost three years ago, Tsoy began publishing her relatable Comics drawings supplemented with her own story. It was made clear to her that she wanted to be seen by as many people as possible, so she shares posts in English, Russian, and Spanish just to point out the fact that our struggles transcend language and border barriers. “Most of my comics have been inspired by everyday events that happen to me and my friends. This made me realize that even people all around the world face similar situations,” she says explaining what inspires her.

Tsoy’s goal is to reach out and make others laugh, seeing themselves in her work. “These are just light-hearted comics about funny things I go through with friends. My style draws from anime and cartoons, with a touch of realism, and I’m always improving through online courses,” she explains. Her art reflects themes on womanhood, self-esteem, and societal pressures, and therefore lightens these heavy subjects with a funny punch. Her relatable art ideas make her comics a favorite among fans.

Speaking about some of the challenges and rewards that come with sharing comics on the internet, Tsoy admits social media can be pretty rough. “Chasing likes and follows has affected my mental health so I take breaks when it becomes overwhelming,” she says. “Another challenge is finding fresh ideas as I sometimes doubt myself and go with ideas I think will succeed instead of following my heart.” She however finds deep satisfaction when people commission her art. “It is very rewarding when people trust me with their projects. I feel honored and always want to give my best.”

Tsoy reflects on her most proud moments as a comic artist by saying, “Hard to say, but I would say it’s being financially independent through my parents through art. Hopefully, that does not stop here, improving my storytelling and art skills and maybe someday publishing a hit digital comic or printed graphic novel.”

However, Tsoy tells those with potential aspirations to work hard: “Just do it! Stay persistent, and true to yourself, and don’t let negativity engulf you. If I could, you can do it too!”
