Talking to Playmate Anthony Smith revealed that he has had a longstanding love for cartoons now. He was heavily influenced by British comics growing up in the UK, including The Beano and The Dandy as well as American Marvel Comics. The artist then continued, “I loved the annuals in particular – one of my Christmas presents. An interest in comic drawing also saw him produce the Cattitude cartoon for a national newspaper in England, which proved popular and eventually led to the creation of “Cattitude.”
“Your Cat,” originally conceived for American audiences, ultimately took the place of “Cattitude”; soon the strip blossomed on GoComics as an online favorite.

For Anthony, the journey into cartooning has been a long and winding road. He completed a degree in Advertising at university, practiced cartooning and illustration skills over time, and took life drawing classes. While he was just 16, some of his first work included illustrating puzzle pages for Marvel UK. Although he never majored in art, Anthony remained committed and pursued knowledge on the subject as well as took advice from Prokos YouTube channel to perfect his craft.

As well as “Cattitude”, Anthony works on several projects at once and often batches his work to utilise time effectively. He finds that this flexible relationship with agency work balances nicely with his cartooning and supports the more independent form in creative circles.

Anthony tries to make music in such a way that he would love the work regardless of what others think. I guess I please myself first and am then responsible for the highest denominator of people who like what I do. But in general, I think it is quite commercial my work.

One of the most important things Anthony shared with us is that he feels drawing from life helps you develop a unique style. He tells young artists to skip the mimicry and look around and at each other: “I would say, if you like drawing cartoons do not just copy all those cartoonists. Like,. Also try to draw from real life, because it will really make you progress and help develop your style in a broader way.
Whether you are a fan of humor comics, dark comic funny, or absurd cartoons Edleman has mastered the perfect blend in these “Cattitude Comics with a twist” full-on wit and feline charm.
