The concept of dark humor is not new, but it was coined as an expression fairly recently in 1935 by the French Surrealist André Breton. These jokes revolve around subjects that are usually considered to be taboo or difficult, humor that requires a little irony.
Shakespeare for example can be used. Many of his works can be viewed as having elements of dark humor mixed with tragedy. Like the American Pie films, British comic Monty Python are known for their absurdist (if need be dark) brand of comedy. Click here to access his earlier post.

Our human brain engages extra in the understanding of irony and simply takes sarcastic messages four fifths more productively than a simple word instruction. This also means that if you get irony, your brain is likely especially well-equipped for creative problem-solving. That being said, dark humor should be utilized sporadically as damping the bomb of it too often might leave a bad taste in people’s mouths that you have some level of sociopathic tendencies.
